My stand on the 'Chosen' trend

 By Alagbe Shenayon

Social media has been flooded with testimonies from members of The Lord's Chosen, which have been turned into memes and comedy skits. While some find these testimonies amusing.

One of my junior brothers in Christ reached out to me and said, "What do you think about this testimonies that are trending online?" Another also asked, "Sir is this thing real?"

After watching some of the videos I also wondered just as you did, "is this real?"

Recently, I came across a video featuring a testifyer declaring, 'The God of my pastor, power.' This raises important questions: Is this approach truly biblical? Should we emulate this manner of prayer? Was the man handling the testimony right to ask why didn't the one testifying say, "where's the God of my pastor power."

I know this sparks numerous queries in your mind. I'll address these concerns in my next article. However, let me clarify my position: I neither endorse nor validate those specific testimonies. Some people's position to it was that some of those testimonies were fabricated or exaggerated, my purpose is not to authenticate their reality.

Instead, my focus in this article is on affirming a fundamental truth: "miracles still occur in our time." Despite reservations about certain testimonies, it's essential to acknowledge the ongoing reality of divine interventions.

My issue is not with people posting these testimonies, seemingly mocking them as lies. Rather, I question fellow believers who join in mockery. Don't they believe in the biblical accounts of Jesus turning water into wine, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego's miraculous survival, or Daniel's experiences?

If we trust these biblical stories, why dismiss modern-day testimonies as falsehoods? Should we then doubt Moses parting the Red Sea?

The Bible says, "And the LORD said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle." (1 Samuel 3:11 KJV)

If we pray for miracles that defy explanation, shouldn't we acknowledge the possibility of extraordinary testimonies? While some may fabricate miracle stories, not all are false. Interestingly, those mocking these testimonies often secretly desire a miraculous intervention in their own lives.

Remember, "The Lord is a rewarder of deeds." (Hebrews 11:6)

Another thing to consider is this: what does the devil stand to gain from this? What is his objective? Simply put, his goal is to discredit the Word of God and weaken people's faith. All he's trying to do is make people doubt the supernatural.

There are numerous agents of his in the media space whose mission is to water down people's faith and turn them away from God. It's easy to dismiss stories of miraculous interventions and instead believe that God cannot supernaturally intervene in people's lives.

Let's approach testimonies with discernment, balancing faith with wisdom. We shouldn't hastily dismiss others' experiences or measure their validity against our own understanding. Instead, let's cultivate an open heart, recognizing the Lord's power to work miracles that inspire awe and faith.
