Dear Young Believers,
I had a dream, and I woke up around 3:44 PM today. In the dream, I saw a few of my teenagers from Rivers State. I was delighted to see them in Lagos, and I welcomed them warmly out of love. It appeared that some of them had come to Lagos to visit their uncles and aunties.
As we spent time together, I found myself speaking to them about various matters, one of which was the topic of prayer and Christian conduct. I was explaining that prayer is not about putting on a show or trying to prove something. Instead, it is about having personal communication with God.
During our discussion, one of them prayed in the style of Apostle Edu. I acknowledged this and shared that I, too, sometimes pray in that pattern—not for show, but as part of my genuine communication with God. I then emphasized that as believers, we should avoid doing things merely to imitate others. It is not necessary to adopt someone else's pattern to connect with God; every believer has the right to communicate with God in their own way.
In today’s world, I’ve observed that we, as young believers, often feel the need to seek approval or applause, to appear strong or spiritual. However, this is often misguided. You do not need to mimic someone like Theophilus Sunday or claim to have the same gifts as others just to prove your spirituality.
"Do as God directs you!"
Find your own unique pattern for communicating with God—it is essential. We are all wonderfully made, too exceptional to be mere copies of others. When we study the scriptures, we see that God rarely does things in the same way. He is creative and unique in His actions.
Throughout the Bible, we find that almost all the men of God had distinct patterns in their relationship with Him. Similarly, we should seek what works for us individually.
In 2025, resolve not to imitate anyone simply to appear spiritual. While it is okay to let someone’s life or ministry inspire you, do not base your spiritual life on seeking the approval of men. If you and a friend started your spiritual journey together, and they seem ahead of you, do not feel pressured to copy their ways to prove your faith. This approach is not only wrong but subtly undermines God’s unique work in your life.
Let God lead you!
Dear young ones, strive in 2025 to remain distinct in your walk with God. Avoid copying others and trust in God’s guidance for your life.
