Holding on to faith in times of doubt by Alagbe Shenayon

Sometimes in life, we go through a lot of things that would sometimes make us wonder if God truly exists. Sometimes, the things we go through in life can make us wonder if God has actually created us to come and suffer on earth. We can even sometimes doubt our existence on earth, which happens to us, but not every time. Sometimes, the things we go through can weaken us, break our hearts, and this is not age-based, neither gender-based nor color-based. It happens to everybody on earth.

If you check the book of Exodus, chapter 14, you will see where the Israelites were on their way, having already left the land of Egypt. Suddenly, the Egyptians were very close to them, and the Israelites had to cry out of heartbrokenness. They had just gotten free from bondage, and now their slave masters were catching up on them to take them back into slavery.

In Exodus 14:11-12, the Israelites said to Moses, "Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt? Didn't we say to you in Egypt, 'Leave us alone, let us serve the Egyptians'? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert."

This reply wasn't from someone who wanted to continue slavery, but from the heart of a man who was afraid of what lay ahead. Their hearts were so broken that sadness overwhelmed them.

Moses replied in verse 13, saying, "Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today, you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still."

This teaches us that as believers, there are times when we may doubt God's workings in our lives. But we must remember that God loves us and is always with us. All we need to do is cry out to Him, just like the Israelites did in Exodus 14:10. They were terrified and cried out to the Lord.

When your heart is weary, cry out to God. Ask Him for mercy, pray, and remember that God cares about you. He wants to do great things for you. Don't forget that God loves you and died for you. Always cry out to the Lord when you need His help, and He will answer.

It's normal to feel overwhelmed and doubt God's presence in our lives. But we must hold on to faith, just like the Israelites did. We must cry out to God, trust in His love, and remember that He is always with us. With faith and perseverance, we can overcome any challenge and see the deliverance of the Lord.
